I think this had less to do with the accident and more to do with simply reducing costs (salaries) within the company. This was just an easy target. I’d look for other cost cutting measures as they continue to lose money on a failed business model.

People are stupid. I’ll say the same thing I always say in that, I have never understood it as anything but advanced driving assists. Its not “autopilot my car while I bird watch down the highway”. It’s purely a system designed to assist the driver. The hardware is in place to go full autonomous but the software is…
But it is Beta software. “use at your own risk...” This is the bait-and-switch problem.
Not that I don’t understand how autopilot works on an aircraft (being from a family of commercial pilots) but you’re missing the point. Which is that the name, in itself, is misleading. Because when people think of “autopilot”(people who don’t know the inner workings of how actual autopilots on aircraft or merchant…
It’s like...the entire point of language is to convey meaning. If the words you choose are “technically correct” but don’t convey the meaning you intend to your audience, you need to choose different words. Simple as that.
Exactly. Most people’s perception of what happens in a plane’s cockpit when the autopilot is engaged is that the pilot and copilot can basically kick back and drink martinis. Why would a car with a system named “Autopilot” be any different?
Staying alert and ready to take over instantly is mentally harder than just driving the damn thing yourself. Level 2 autonomy is a nothing more than hype for the tech geeks to revel in. It’s bloody useless for real world use.
If a person is too dumb to not know what ‘autopilot’ is, when the term has been used for 80+ years, that’s on them. not Tesla.
How does that work for those that buy used ones? Is Tesla coming to tell me about how to use it?
I’ve been saying this for a while but the term “Autopilot” does conjure up images of actual pilots flicking a switch and taking their hands off the controls to do other things around a cockpit while the aircraft essentially flies itself with minimal supervision. As we’ve seen its not too difficult to confuse Tesla’s…
I wish on things like this it would carry the same punishment, car wise, as drag racing. Get your car crushed.
Are we still 100% sure domestic drone strikes are a bad idea?
I’m not a big fan of asset forfeiture laws because of the abuses we have seen, but I could certainly get behind a narrowly applied one in these cases. Get caught doing donuts in an empty parking lot - maybe get a ticket. Get caught flagrantly stopping traffic and causing public disruption for your own fun - lose your…
Oh neat! I didn’t know they were making another Fast and Furious!
Attention-seeking narcissists emboldened by the Selfie Age. I weep for the future.
so seriously... If I just keep on going and this guy and I meet in the middle while I am driving down my lane, is it not his fault?
If at some point the people in the front edge up and force this guy down the road and he manages to clip one of them is it still his fault or would it be the edgers fault because they…
Sucks too because that damned thing is getting more and more compelling. It looks bad-ass, is fast as stink, has a modern engine. Heck they are even super-popular in Europe now.
Saw a Model 3 this weekend.
Cue up an Elon Musk tirade on Consumer Reports and how “ancient” they are along with a “Who still uses them anyway?” comment in 3, 2, 1...
No one needs to buy a $78k car, but Tesla needs to sell a $78k car.
