And then …

TYRIAN SHEKELS. What happens once Hawley amasses all 30 coins?

I understand why Jackson left out the whole Denethor/Sauron palantir thing - because how many more hours long could that movie have been? But man, did it make the character's motivations seem extra-weird.

I couldn't watch and am so, so hoping that iTunes or Google or whatever will NOT do this to me in the morning.

Yes. It was befuddling.

My husband actually said NO, quite loudly, while pretending not to watch.

Yeah, but that was *seriously* absurd whereas a contemporary accent … still absurd but at least entertaining. Also- naked Franklin!

"Where's reverse?"

Sci fi and a little steampunk throughout as it's set @ 15-20 years in the future. Videophones, lots of people with private airplanes, a nightclub with a glass floor … Interestingly there's supposed to have been a dreadful war in the 1940s, so that works.

American.

I like his essays. That being said, his essay collections need proofreading / copy editing like nothing I've ever seen. Get your shit together, publishing industry.

Novel - Stella Gibbons, Cold Comfort Farm (1932). One of the funniest, most delicious books ever, and I can't read anything else she wrote. And although Kate Beckinsdale made a good Flora Poste in 1995, I'm not in love with the movie … Any other Cold Comfort fans out there?

Posting twice … Most of the lyrics to "Bad Romance" are risible at best, and yet I love the song.

I've wondered about that pigeon for years. Are its eyes red? Are its wings on fire?

The Gin Blossoms. "You can't call it cheatin' - she reminds me of you."

Wrong place for the comment I typed, sorry. I'll come up with a clever reply later.

I saw it in the theater, and haven't rewatched, but I do remember that my younger self spent most of the movie laughing - not in mockery, either. As did the rest of the audience.

Yes, you're right, it's the way Jackson handles the transition from the girls' fantasy life to HOLY FUCK reality that makes the film so powerful and so hard to take.

Me too! New York, Lincoln Plaza - an art house that still exists, dreadful sight lines and all. Saw it with my husband and we were both blown away. I still remember the way the back of my neck got all prickly when shit got real.

Thank you! I loved that.
