11) Star Wars nerds so, so angry about the new movie. Talk about grown-up babies.

Also, I actually liked when Ted Cruz posted the Zodiac Killer letter. Probably the only time I will ever enjoy anything he does.

The amount of internet acclaim Wendy’s social media department has received makes me feel like I’m in a David Foster Wallace story that was never published because it was too precious and unbelievable.

I’ve been amused by the Wendy’s tweets when they show up here. I also used to like Dave Thomas. Doesn’t mean I’ll ever eat a Wendy’s hamburger. I’m not sure they belong on this list.

Kinja didn’t happen in 2017.

(Dis)Honourable mention goes to Kinja.

We did not. But they weren’t worse than these ones.

I was charmed by what a hapless idiot Poe was. Losing his X-wing represented a kind of neutering for him, and with no outlets for his excessive energy, he kind of went of the deep end. It was like cabin fever in spaaaaaaace.

Right there with you. It was remarkably refreshing thinking I knew what was about to happen only to realize that my constant reliance on the past (Star Wars films) was tricking me. Kylo said it best by saying to let the past go and if you can’t, burn it down. He even put his saying in action when he usurped the throne

A few points of note:

Fair enough! I guess (as I stated below) I would have figured from Poe’s standpoint he’d be less likely to mutiny if the plan was ‘Retreat and call in reinforcements’ rather than ‘Wait here and twiddle our thumbs until we die’. But what do I know! I’ve never even shot a womp rat.

They made Luke Skywalker interesting. I love the original trilogy. I love Mark Hamill. I have read an ungodly amount of Expanded Universe stuff. And most of it, however hard it tries, can’t make Luke interesting. He’s The Hero, The Beacon of Hope, The Savior of the Galaxy, the Jediest Jedi in all of the Jedi. Even

I enjoyed watching how much the formula was played around with. At times it felt like even with 2.5 hours, there still wasn’t enough time to tell the whole story.

I stand by my “Excellent review” comment, though I guess this is also, perhaps, more in line with a critical analysis than a review. FWIW, I don’t think Ackbar would have been as effective as Holdo in both the sacrifice—it’s cool to see a non-legend do something legendary—and, as you say, in Johnson’s goal of fooling

I’ll offer my defense of the Holdo logic hole here: She isn’t a good teacher, much as Poe isn’t a good student.

When are we getting a spoiler space review for this?? I’m itching to discuss it with everyone!

Very minor spoilers follows...

You know what bothers me about Kylo Ren? The fact that he is seemingly obsessed with Vader’s villainy, but was raised by Han and Leia and presumably trained at a young age by Luke. I’m sure they must have taught him that Vader turned from the Dark Side to save his family from the evil emperor, right? Just seems like

Alright, so it must be really, really good, an A.A. Dowd B+ is like a A+ in an AP class....
