Geoff Bodine's crash in the truck series was pretty memorable, too. My favorite part was the track marshals standing around the engine sitting in the infield 300 feet away, scratching their heads.

@MaWeiTao: My favorite thing about the Civic's reliability is when I would have to do timing belts and water pumps at 120,000 miles. The parts I took off typically looked newer than the parts I was putting on. If you take care of those engines, the parts just never wear out.

The Hilux, after the 22R came out in '82 or whatever. They had some problems with water jacket erosion, and you had to replace the timing chain guides a bit, but if you were careful to not get them too hot, they'd run forever. I've seen a 1987 Hilux with 1.86 million miles on it.

@bangernomics: They're unibody, but yeah, they were built at the plant in Vance, Alabama that is notorious for poor QC. This is the most complained-about car I have ever worked on. Worse than the Yugo, even, because the things that go wrong with it are just as frequent, but far more expensive.

@bangernomics: Also, I hear the A-pillar welds on this car are so bad that the windshield used to fall out.
