This is why USB C is so great -- ONE PORT to do it all. I dont know why mac users keep moaning about “dongles”. You need only one. Maybe not this exact one, but there are dozens to choose from with tons of configs. Gone are the days of unplugging 5 things before you need to leave. Ugh.

External USB 3 is very, very fast. You could just hang a SSD off the back and get near full speed. You just missed WD sale, they had 4 & 6 TB Tunderbolt RAIDs on sale. (might still be) $280 for 6 TB. thats actaully a deal. 3 TB drives are $100 each, and a dual bay Tbolt case -- pfft, $250 empty. You can even upgrade

Not a defender, I use both. iMacs use “flash” based drives. a typical SSD gets 500 MB/s read/writes but the flash drive is mdot.2 -- 2000 MB/s read/write speeds. Huge. Fusion drive does the same in wrties, but its slower in reads, only 1500 MB/s. But 2 and 3TB sizes. Thats a big deal for some. Althouygh with USB 3,
