I just watched him in season 2 of an Australian series called "Laid." He plays a character that can heal anyone by fucking them. But he is a repellent, rude and disgusting man who couldn't care less about the people he heals…he just wants to get laid and get paid.

I think it's security more than attention. She's one of those people who can't be alone and so she does whatever it takes to make sure that doesn't happen. The "lack of mental soundness" seems to fit this idea as well.
