The argument that Lisa was the mouthpiece for the writers’ shitty beliefs because she’s Apu’s friend is kind of insane, no?

Back in my day, the English language didn’t evolve or change over time!
I get why the Netflix shows forego the episodic / procedural approach, but JJ would only thrive from case-of-the-week episodes, with a looming threat growing in the background to take center stage for maybe the last three episodes. These thirteen episode story arcs are punishing.
Jessica doing boring detective work is so damn satisfying to me. My favorite thing in Defenders, other than the elevator catch, was Jessica going to the library.
They have such a great set up: detective with superhuman powers. Why not just have an interesting case? Her character is awesome, the cast is great, but they reduced everything into melodrama. I was disappoint.
This might or might not have been the best way to make her point. But, I do admire her spirit.
I’m old enough to have been taught on a typewriter to double-space after a period.
I just want to say that as a white person, fuck raisins in potato salad. In fact, fuck raisins in everything but raisin toast. Raisins and cranberries need to stay in their fucking lanes.
“Authorities now say the fire was not ruled under control until 9pm ET, over two hours after Trump reassured the public that the fire was over.”
Kinda like Jewish guys making Jewish jokes and white guys making redneck jokes, it’s okay when you are punching at yourself, it’s not okay when punch down or at others that you cannot relate culturally to
The worst is the historic accuracy arguments because if that was the motive for including rape there would be multiple rapes of male characters as well. Men aren’t even raped for torture in the show, which is very common even today. The fact that male rape is considered more graphic or unacceptable just shows how…
...men could finally express all of the things they’d been bottling up. And what were those things? Mainly, explicit sex and violence, and anger and frustration towards women.
100%. I truly believe this is the root of all MRA bullshit—they cannot conceive that every single woman walking around on this planet has her own interior life, her own hopes and dreams, and is the hero of her own story. It’s the same thing that causes men & boys to call women “fake geek girls” or “fake gamer girls”…
you know what? more people need to hear this. trying to help abuse victims, regardless of gender, will exhaust you more quickly than one could imagine.
This quote deserved to be emphasized. In every facet of storytelling - film, tv, books, graphic novels, music - boys and men are never asked or confronted with women’s stories like girls and women are confronted with men’s stories. Even history books in school are about men and their accomplishments. Boys won’t read…
YUP. So true- there are EXTREMELY few times (even in my English class) where boys are forced to see from the perspective of women, while girls are asked to think like men almost all of the time.
Just swinging in here to emphasize this quote:
As young, basically indistinguishable white guys, it’s a miracle they weren’t both cast in Dunkirk.
Sometimes the age, gender, sexuality, etc. of the question-asker really is relevant to the questions. Other times, those details are provided so Dan can use appropriate pronouns in his response. However, the most common reason that people use these identifiers is that it’s often a thing done in queer/ queer-friendly…
I had an idea once where a protagonist grapples with a personal challenge or obstacle, and, with the help of allies, manages to overcome it by the end of the story. I pitched this idea to everyone and quite a few lawsuits will be filed just as soon as I remember where I left my tweed lawsuit filing jacket.
