I also NP this, but I have personally aided in the construction of one a Vanameno (ours was a old Pontiac Transport aka the dustbuster) and that was significantly less than $3000. Ours even had steel reinforcing to help with the total lack of structural support. We kept the front bit of roof.

This brings back some memories.... ahhh torque steer, my old pal. He may have even brought along his friend, snap oversteer, to the party... we welcome you both to the Jalopnik school of being a douchebag teenage driver....

And as a SRT-4 guy, I am required to feel jelous that I can't afford a WRX.

Fuck NO! It's faster than a STI! Better looking than an S4 and can out handle a 135i!!!!!! Plus it has 4 doors, for all those illigitamate kids your going to have from all that ass your going to get. It's the best thing EVAR!!!

I concur with everything you said. As the owner of both a first gen Highline and a SRT-4, and being a young white male, there is something about those cars that makes you an asshat while driving… or just attracts asshats. The first gen is a wonderful car, and the guys at neon.org are extremely knowledgeable about

Mile Over Gallon

I nominate any old-lady mobile. Old Buick old Olds. I had an Oldsmobile 88 LSS, 98 in that champagne colour they loved back in the 90's. Cost me $400, plus front brakes and a muffler (another $150 total ) then ran for a year with nothing. I gave it to my parents when I upgraded. In 11 months I put 40,000 km on it, so

-40 F = -40C. Pretty much

Oh, sure, awesome student car, or so you think. Toyota reliability, turbo power. Endlessly tunable. What's the worst that could happen??

I have never driven the SRT-ACR, but the normal SRT is a fine commuter. It even gets decent fuel economy, if you can stay out of boost. This is not a regular occurance for me, unfortunatly....

I have one of these. For the large and quite heavy boat it is, it destroyes Civic SI's from the same time period. Also, I destory my girlfriends Sentra SER Spec-V all the time. Also, the thing floats down the highway. Feels like your on a couch. I don't know if you can get much more sleepery then that.

I beleive that's a trolling motor

One of my friends just picked up a clean 1985 SD Turbodiesel for $1500. It needed less work then this one. The thing is amazing. We were doing 80

I think that the first gen Neon's are still overlooked. I had a commute of 20km (12 miles) that was 100% city driving and it would still do 28-30 MPG. On a trip it could manage 38 mpg. And, as has been talked about before, it is a fun little car to toss around. Low power (138 hp) but low weight (2400 lbs) makes them

I have just finished university, and will be coming up on my first "real" job since finishing. I had an E30, but I got rid of it, and now I have an SRT-4. It's got all the right noises, but I sometimes wish I had waited a bit longer and gone for the 350Z/RX-8/Z4/STI route. Now that I am going to have a wage good

This is technically true, but is a lot more involved than you would think. Everything is different from the SRT4 to the regular neon. I have an SRT4, and everything from the suspension to the steering is different.

The SRT4 uses the same block as the PT cruiser, while the R/T has the same 2.0 as the regular Neon, with the addition of a new head.
