Don’t be so sure. One of the big threads cut from his version of Justice League was Batman’s deathwish. He thought the only way to atone for his behavior in BvS was to die (which was part of the plan for the aborted JL2). So, he was laying the groundwork. All this is is confirmation that this was his plan.
