Yeah, from what I have heard now is these diesel bros aren’t even tuning. They just make or buy a smoke switch that trips up the computer to run the engine super rich... so yeah, waste of fuel big time, and definitely not cool. It’s probably one of the dumbest things I’ve heard of in the automotive aftermarket.
So basically you don’t know what you’re talking about. I drive a ‘14 Grand Cherokee.. and I’ve never heard of a smoke switch.. The only diesels I’ve been around that blow smoke are tuned to make a metric fuck-tonne of power. I also wasn’t defending them. I literally said it was a serious question, to see what you guys…

I agree, I guess I can’t think of any other modifications on a vehicle that would be similar off the top of my head, but I think that they’d have to catch you in the act, not just be capable of said act. There really should be more exemptions for smaller-volume niche cars, especially ones that are driven so sparingly. Like 98% of them will be driven a few hundred miles per year, if that. All of these cars’ environmental impact is taken up by the initial manufacturing; the amount of pollution put out by their engines…
