Steven, I'm glad you went to a show at Valhalla. The bartender is a sweet dude and it's all classic rock all the time outside of SXSW. He even spins classic rock records by request on Wednesdays, has a list of like 150 of them.

Also, sucks that I am just now finding out about all the AVC commenters that were doing SXSW stuff this weekend…wish we could have coordinated something!!!

I wasn't good about finding the free shit so I too spent tons of money on booze.

One of the things that I love about SXSW, as someone who lives in Austin, is all of the awesome unofficial free shit you can do where you don't have to wait in line. I spent way too much time this year planning for acts that I already like and wanted to see, although I think it's ultimately more fun to find…

As long as they're not official showcases it's pretty easy to get into whatever you want as long as you get there early and are prepared to stand around for 6 hours. And you can see a bunch of other bands you don't know well that you may end up liking.

That thing was pretty wack. Apparently there were free Taco Bell Doritos monstrosity tacos throughout the week as well.

I felt it was perfectly pleasant, but I'm not sure it's anything special.

Well for one thing I totally blew off making the lapel pin because things have been kind of crazy lately. Also, it was SO CROWDED there, there was like no sense in walking around trying to find people. Just kind of made small talk with whichever nice-looking person was standing next to me, read a magazine and tweeted…

I hear you. I ran into my ex at a bar during SXSW this weekend and there wasn't enough booze and pot in the world subsequently that evening.

There was still a fair amount of spectacle at the show I saw this weekend, and it looked like Barnes & Co were having fun up there. The crowd was enjoying the energy. It might have been a bit different since this was a SXSW event I'm talking about here. They are generally pretty awesome live, though.

The day party yesterday was super fun! Excited to see the whole SXSW recap tomorrow.
