This is such a slippery slope! What’s next, they’ll allow people to wear clothes for their driver’s license photo? They'll let folks wear corrective lenses, or keep their beard? I remember the good old days when you were required to strip down, shave every bit of hair off your face and body, and then be photographed

On a semi-related note, her brows are magnificent. I wish I could do them to myself.

I’m gonna blow your mind when I say this:

isn’t it?

PREACH. What is the payoff for all this brand-management and marketing focus-group analysis just to decide which facade you pick to get through your days, anyway? What do you get out of it? Your image in each person’s eyes is almost entirely shaped by their baggage— struggling to advertise anything else is pointless.

What’s next, they’ll let me get my photo taken while my hair is dyed? I mean where does it end?

Their issues just seem so irrelevant. How dare you empathize with the mentally challenged when there are people starving to death in Africa. What are you; a monster? Until all injustices are solved, we can’t solve or even talk about any particular one of them. The mentally challenged are a waste of our time. Maybe if

I’ve recently started seeking, on name change cases, orders that the individual doesn’t need to put the standard notice in the legal section of the paper, because the paper was actually giving people a hard time over it. It’s 2015, newspapers, be glad anyone is giving you money, transitioning or not.

It’s corrective sarcasm. If I have to explain it, it ruins the moment.

(psst— if you shave your face, you don’t appear as you would naturally - that’s the point. Any person who can grow a beard, yet shaves, should be rejected by the South Carolina DMV for “being in disguise.”)

Actually, men without facial hair (if they can grow it). If you shave, you’re altering your natural appearance, therefore in disguise.

I was about to comment on that exact phrase. What if said officials thought her haircut wasn’t right? Or that they thought she might be taller? And - most importantly - who are said “officials” and are they elected or hired?

ADORABLE! And fierce. Way to fight for your rights (and the rights of others), Chase. :)

This is the way I like to think of it...

The DMV lost this argument the year they invented hair dye.

Glad she won, but this sure is some fucking bullshit, isn’t it? I’m sure a lot of other folks getting their license photos are wearing a lot more makeup than she is, particularly given that it’s South Carolina.

Yeah, I think it’s important to consider the fact that a lot of trans women don’t have vulvas—either because they’ve elected not to have bottom surgery, or because they can’t, due to cost (or any number of other factors out of their control). So if you say “trans women can come, but only if they don’t have penises,”

“So sorry for your loss.”

WHEREBY it has been noted that this is an article about a trans prisoner, and

1) "I'll respect what she wants in regards to gender identity."
