The Nightmare movies are always at least goofy and entertaining, but Halloween is just godawful past the first one.

Same. I think he's a great visual director but if he dives into something that actually implies depth I worry he won't be able to cut it. On the other hand since he's adapting from the game, not the epic, he might garner some leeway? I doubt it. I just want it to look as good and be as brutal as his last two movies.
