You're right— I just checked and he got 46% of the vote, which is definitely higher than I recalled.

I'd say they've got somewhat of a case given that Trump only received a plurality, not a majority, of votes. It's different than if at the DNC they tried to boot Hillary, who got an actual >50% majority.

To add to what SG said: the Never Trumpers needed a majority of delegates from at least 7 states to agree to the petition; they convinced anywhere from 9 to 11 states (reports are conflicted and the RNC is refusing to release numbers/names) to do so. After the vote, the Chair came out and said that 3 states' delegates…
