That isn’t the case here. The new Mustang GT can’t even handle the old 1LE. This new Camaro didn’t have to do much to win. This coming from a person who prefers Mustangs.

You can pull sales numbers out, but you can not prove that they were chosen because the diesel gets better MPGs. The sales numbers will also be completely different in the United States where more people chose petrol engines.
