Was watching a BBC doco about the KKK the other day and during the filming the Charleston shooting happened followed by the Confederate flag protests, and boy those Klan guys were just salivating over the thought of a race war. It was just days away apparently. They can't wait.

I call foul on the black-face drummer scene. He isn't staring at anyone in the crowd, he's just vacantly staring off into space, it is we the audience, through Hitch's camera, that is staring at him. The facial tick is a plot point.

The Caretaker (1964) and The Birthday Party (1968) are pretty amazing. Shaw is great in both and in the former Donald Pleasence reprises his stage performance and is spellbinding. And Friedkin directed the latter.
