@avclub-d542a3419c3ad57206a96bcc86155ebc:disqus I think it was in 1997 when Cleese and Palin were promoting Fierce Creatures. I was at the height of my Python obsession when that aired, and I remember being really sad seeing two old men stiffly trudging their way through that sketch.

This will make you feel worse: The cheaper UK version is supposedly  on 180 gram vinyl and comes with a CD copy and a bonus 7". The only conclusion I can come up with? The Flaming Lips hate America.

I'm listening to the vinyl now, and sonically, it's nothing special. It's pressed on standard weight vinyl, and the packaging is pretty basic. Oh, and it doesn't even come with a digital download, which is downright inexcusable in this day and age. Fortunately, I ha some Amazon points to burn, so I only wound up

I did the RSD thing for the first time last Black Friday. I hadn't ever bothered with it before because the releases usually aren't all that exciting to me either, and the whole manufactured scarcity thing does irk me a bit. Having said that, my local record stores were PACKED last time, so if it helps keeps them in

Well, this is surprising. The new QOTSA album is coming out on Matador Records. They're indie rock now!

I think the production quality on their albums has steadily declined with each album since SFTD. Everything is super-compressed. It's probably just part of their aesthetic now, but I really wish they'd do an album that sounds as great as Rated R again.

Speaking of Professor Blastoff, I just found out last week that they are doing a live taping in my town next month. This is a podcast that, for whatever reason, I just never got around to hearing, but I feel like I'd be a fool if I passed on the opportunity to see the live show. I'm now doing some marathon listening

I feel like an interview with any living Pythons would be somewhat wasted on WTF considering Maron's admitted indifference toward British comedy.

Speaking of Rick Moranis, Ken Plume has done some really great interviews with Dave Thomas and Joe Flaherty on his podcast A Bit of a Chat. Flaherty went into some interesting territory about Rick Moranis, hinting that he wasn't the easiest guy to work with. He said that Moranis and Thomas brought out the worst in

I always like how QOTSA will bring in these fairly notable guest musicians and fit them in the band pretty seamlessly rather than putting a big spotlight on them. I don't think I would have even known that was Julian Casablancas on "Sick Sick Sick" if nobody had told me. Same with Rob Halford in "Feel Good Hit of the

I wouldn't quite say I dislike it, but I was fairly disappointed with it overall. Aside from a few great tracks, I found it a little too jammy, which is odd because I love the Desert Sessions.

@avclub-81fc53c51059936bda7ac43bdcb32449:disqus Ha, I didn't even notice the pocket for the CD (it was rattling around loose in the box). Neat! I already told my girlfriend I'd give her the CD, but my OCD might force me to rip her a CDR and keep the original. Am I willing to put my relationship on the line for my

Well, whaddaya know. It came in today!

I'm a vinyl guy, and I admit that I can't really tell a high quality MP3 from a CD. I can definitely tell a good vinyl pressing from a crappy one though.

There are also some reissues that spread a single album across multiple 45 RPM LPs for higher resolution. They do that with a lot of jazz albums. Can't say I've ever gotten curious enough to buy one.

Does that mean my copy will be here soon too? I almost forgot that I ordered that.

This isn't really related, but I heard "This Is a Call" for the first time in a long time on the radio yesterday, and it reminded me of when the Foo Fighters just seemed like fun, quirky rock guys, not the Last American Rock Band. I kind of miss those days.

Agreed. I'm not even all that familiar with The Mountain Goats (although I like what I've heard), and I thought it was a really interesting interview. It probably helped that I knew nothing about his history of abuse and drugs going into it though.

I thought that was weird too. Isn't he the same age as pretty much everybody in his social circle? What's the big deal?

Yep. The lyrics in that one are so embarrassing that they literally made me groan out loud.
