I didn't laugh or even smile once. I felt actively insulted for the entire episode. The ONLY time I even snickered was in the Star Trek closing credits homage.

Even in the latter seasons, most episodes have been "pretty good by TV sitcom standards" even if not by Simpsons standards. Much like the neverending spate of superhero movies, I don't think the point of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Trilogy was to make good films or an adaptation that fit the source material. The point was to make a bazillion dollars for New Line and Warner and on that count they have succeeded.
