Take a look at Universal Basic Income. The promise of technological advancement and the associated automation and productivity gains was always sold as a utopian means of achieving the need to work LESS. I think that’s a noble goal. We shouldn’t be inventing new jobs for people to do, we should be harvesting the

Uhh, no we don’t. I’ve read the full “IAAF REGULATIONS GOVERNING ELIGIBILITY OF FEMALES WITH HYPERANDROGENISM TO COMPETE IN WOMEN’S COMPETITION” (sorry about the caps, copy/paste), and they say nothing in the “Level 3 – Full examination and diagnosis” section that remotely approaches what Engber suggested.

Right, but the only evidence we have that the process would be any different for folks suspected of HA, at least under the current rules, is Engber’s fantasy.

Here is what the IOC actually said about transgender athletes in November of 2015:

So for trans folks they just take the doctor’s word, but for “manly” women they do a full body cavity search and chemical testing? I think we’re not getting an accurate portrayal of what actually happens/would happen in these cases.

How do they test ‘gender-related advantages’ in the case of transgendered athletes? And the passage you quoted is from the Slate article (and quoted in this one) and doesn’t seem to be based on anything other than the original author’s fantasy. The actual rules say nothing even remotely approaching that.

Thanks for that. Those standards also sound akin to the ones decried (rightfully) in this article? Like, if they were asked how they would go about proving someone met the standards you quoted, I’d imagine they’d sound similar.

I think what they’ve done to her is abhorrent, but it IS an interesting grey area, speaking as a totally unaffected observer. Should Caitlyn Jenner have been allowed to compete as a woman in the 1976 Olympics?

Needs additional spoilers.

It was worth it.

One of my favorite songs. Good choice.

Do the math. Why would you try to pay down a mortgage with a 3.5% interest rate when you could get 5 - 7% returns by simply investing the extra payments in index funds?

So if I go out and buy one today, I can essentially get it for $5,100 off?

My wife and I have been considering school options for our 3-year-old basically since his birth. Home-schooling or “no-schooling” has been given serious consideration. I think our plan is to start him in traditional school and see how it goes. We’re “worried” because we both despised school for the most part. I spent

Literally 3 teams in your own conference and 11 overall.

I “knew” a few HARDCORE college football fans of one of the teams in the playoff last year that liked it. I think the argument was that it saves them the expense of going out. I’m sure their wives were thrilled.

Seriously though, how can these guys suck so bad at shooting free throws?! It boggles the mind.

For his next trick, AH is going to demonstrate that the magic 8 ball sucks at predicting the future.

Now playing

I, like many others, haven’t been able to stop thinking about that block.
