Yeah, that's true from what I have heard as well. Most .epubs don't have DRM, but B&N provides their own custom Adobe DRM. It allows the fun stuff like the Lend Me feature and syncing of current page across devices.
There is DRM on Nook books, but with the right plugins for Calibre, it's very simple to crack.
