Friend is a tech at a BMW dealership and told me to never buy the E46 as well. Nothing but expensive problems due to shitty designs not meant to last longer than the warranty/lease period and similarly, the replacement parts aren’t redesigned so a lot of what fails will fail again for the same reason as before

Mechanical AWD is actually really nice when paired with snow tires, as you can keep the car in a low gear (1st or 2nd) and the added drivetrain drag from all 4 wheels being linked together helps limit the car’s rate of speed on snow covered hill descents (obviously, if you have traction). 

They stop running after you exceed 15 MPH, unfortunately, because at that speed the moving air provides too much cooling for them to heat up any longer.

You should know what you’re getting into when you buy this generation of 3 series. CP. Run away. Whatever issues the seller disclosed are just the tip of the iceberg. 

The tradeoff is the police there can’t shoot and kill you first and ask questions later, with zero consequences, because they “felt threatened”.
