Go easy on the forums there. I’ve owned a few older Mercs over the years and done a good bit of the maintenance on them myself. I’ve found the forums to be pretty helpful actually. Just remember that not all owners there are going to do things themselves, so you may have to wade through some irrelevant postings or

He not only ate a driver but then shot up a pizza joint!

I have two feet, so I’d be all set there.

I’ve been married quite awhile to a very lovely lady. My experience tells me that older wifes employ the same head movement.

No they won’t. Assuming some company is dumb enough to do something like this again - maybe that’s not such a stretch unfortunately - once caught they will want to 1) appease the feds/regulators to minimize penalties/fines/sanctions and 2) minimize the damage to the brand. Telling the customers to go pound sand will

I think the trick here is that the vehicle has to be titled as dismantled or salvaged, and have been acquired after Sept. 18 (which makes sense to me actually - prevents someone from buying one out of a junkyard after the settlement was announced and presenting it for buyback). Presumably this car still has a clean

Cause ‘Merica by god!

Interesting to hear that one went for around $10k. Casual perusal of Hemmings and other sites seems to have them more like $20K and up, but can’t say I know what they should be at. I’ll check out SuicideSlabs, thanks for the tip.

My first car was a ‘69 bug, that’s exactly what those are. However, they are mostly decorative items - heat in a Bug was a longed for luxury not accomplished by the use of those levers in any combination. I can recall some pretty damn cold trips in that car.

I agree with the notion of a classic, but don’t think you’re finding a good suicide door Continental for anywhere near $10k.

I suspect most are just how described in the post. Man (almost always I’m guessing) buys car with intention of restoring. Man puts car in barn/garage/storage unit, etc., maybe does some work on it but gets distracted in one of the myriad ways of life. Man maybe considers selling from time to time but doesn’t because

Or the owners hid the cars as suggested in the story, and then were killed by the Nazis. Either version with that ending is grim indeed, but certainly plausible based on the atrocities committed by the Nazis during WWII.

So could you transplant a Prius drivertain into an old Bettle? That might be an interesting build to see.
