I bet you’ll find at least a few. Anytime a mentally ill person isn’t white or straight, it just creates an extra obstacle to them getting reliable care. Mental health care in particular requires a lot of empathy, and some people are incapable of feeling that for anyone who doesn’t look like them.
There’s already enough sigma about mental illnesses in the black community, enough to keep folks from seeking treatment that could make their lives better and less of a living hell. If you’re having a difficult postpartum, you need to see a doctor. You and your infant need to thrive. If you trust your midwife or doula, they likely have an attending physician who they trust will take excellent care of you.
