We use both "camion" as well as "pick-up" but we use "camion" mainly for bigger trucks like the medium and heavy-duty trucks and sometimes "camionette" for the smaller pick-ups.

A bit off-topic but I spotted these old articles from Motor Trend and Pickuptrucks about Gdiesel, a small quantity of natural gas blended with diesel. It could be another interesting avenue for natural gas to explore.
