I wasn’t bothered by the walls between Barry’s two lives coming down in front of Sally, especially because it is foreshadowed by his conversation with Hank and Cristobel.

And the tone of that episode was so far off from the rest of the series that (besides being really offputting) I have to wonder why they decided to go for that for the pilot. The series is uneven, much like its inspiration The Twilight Zone was, but like that series the good episodes are worth it.

... And Barry has to move out, thus leaving Sally alone... at the address Fuchs is offering up for revenge...

The acting is top notch on this show - literally everyone in the cast kills it night in and night out - but holy hell Anthony Carrigan is on another level of comedic timing. Him using Barry’s phone and giving every permission imaginable was just such terrific comedy. Also, the end was some nice understated dark comedy…

I think Ms. Seehorn’s direction may have tricked both the reviewer and most viewers, because Howard mentioning his wife is purposely played as something insignificant in the opening scene and it only gets a passing mention in this review. It did feel a bit like a victim of peak television, in that it mostly had potential to grow into something interesting than being great from the jump.  But shows don’t really get room to breathe anymore, particularly expensive ones, and if you don’t arrive fully formed, that’s it for you.
