I read the other Kinja intros on Jez's sister sites yesterday, and it seems like we, the commentariat, will be responsible for not feeding the trolls. If someone posts something disgusting and a lot of people respond in outrage, the Kinja algorithm will place that discussion front and center. If no one responds, it

Yes! I found it to be that way on Gawker yesterday. Also, if you get enough comments, there's a little double arrow icon that will come up (looks kind of like fast forward), and it will show you a whole, scrollable list of all the comment previews so you can click where you want.

I really missed the comments yesterday, so I passed some time at Gawker and played with Kinja a bit. I like how you can isolate different branches of a discussion, rather than figuring out who is responding to whom. At first it seemed like too much clicking, but then I saw how you can mouse over people's avatars to

I have family like that. Not racist or homophobic, but close enough that they expect you to visit a few times a year. And I've been going through a situation with my stepmom and dad that makes it uncomfortable to be around them.

Hitchcock's great, but I'm a sucker for zombie movies. Any other horror, I can't watch, but there's something about a monster you can DO something about that makes it better. '28 Days Later' and the remake of 'Dawn of the Dead' are two of my faves.

I usually hate Toms, but those are really cute. Neutral enough to go with anything, but the pattern keeps it interesting. Keep 'em!

Conversation between my husband and I:

It's real! I spent last weekend composing a shopping list for all the sundries I would need to cloth diaper (with my husband's full knowledge), and I still have my IUD in! Diagnosis: Baby Fever.

I saw it! I enjoyed it, but it was not without flaws. My husband HATED it. With the fire of a thousand suns. He thought it went too cheesy & over-the-top, and that Kristen Stewart looks constipated rather than emotional. I didn't think she was that bad, but then I went in with pretty low expectations for K-Stew.

I think they just look thin because she's usually biting them as she emotes.

I have a friend with kids who has told me that the comparison can be apt: we're both dealing with poop, her kid chews on her shoes, bath time and getting vaccinated are both not fun, etc. I was afraid of insulting her the first time I brought it up, but she has a sense of humor about it. Keep in mind that sometimes

So I'm going to an amusement park tomorrow. (Chaperoning a field trip=getting paid to ride roller coasters all day!) I haven't been to one in over a decade. What should I wear? My coworker mentioned the probability of water rides. What ratio of coming prepared vs. packing light should I be aiming for here?

Anyone else psyched for tonight's episode? Ready to sing along?

Kohls

My thighs. They are not toothpicks. This makes dresses & skirts a lot more comfortable (and easier to find!), and shorts less so. But I am soon to be chaperoning a field trip to an amusement park, so I needed some shorts, and I was surprised to find some good ones! (Dockers! Who knew?)

I know, right? Sometimes when I am about to nag my husband about something he "should" do, I think about the last nice thing he did for me (cleaning doggy vomit even though he was running late for work!), and I hold my tongue!

So in spite of me declaring not 24 hours ago that, as God as my witness, I would never wear shorts again, I bought some shorts. Two pairs! Now I can't wait until it's warm enough (again) to wear my cute new shorts!

Dude! I hope you had an excellent come-back for that jerkface. For starters:

I got a Mirena IUD last summer. I was NOT a fan of the insertion. They asked if I wanted to be part of an experiment to see if this numbing gel helped with pain, and I was not told if I got the numbing agent or just plain KY. Afterwards I rated my pain on that funny smiley face pain chart. Either way, it was not

Of course! I have been obsessed with this song for weeks now. The NPR interview alerted me to the cover, which is just so mesmerizing. I have played both far more than is really good for me.
