My son is about her age and he doesn’t seem to have any awareness of money, some people having it, some people not, etc. So I don’t know if she necessarily is aware yet that her family is different from other families.

I love this! Have you considered doing something like this with Lady Justice, seeing as how the courts are the only thing standing between us and Trump right now? Your pin made me think of this image that I saw this week:

I agree. The only thing about it that pisses me off is that Michelle would never have been given the latitude to opt out of all of this crap because of racism. She had to toe the line and be traditional because she was already ground-breaking just by being black.

Am I reading too much into aquarium puns again?

That’s what I heard earlier in the week too, and then it seemed like there was a lot of confusion about how people could reach them. I did see a sign-up sheet being circulated by SURJ that had all of the translator shifts filled, which was nice to see.

Are they actively looking for interpreters today? I was in touch with some Arabic and Farsi speakers on Monday who can help at JFK; I can try to get the word out to them again.

Yup. Trump’s a puppet and Bannon’s the one pulling the strings.

The reason why I am particularly concerned about DeVos is that keeping people uninformed and uneducated is how the Republicans get and hold onto power. We saw it in this election: people who aren’t capable of telling fake news from real, people who don’t realize that the ACA and Obamacare are the same thing, etc. By

I feel like we are on course for a civil war if this continues. We are going to be two sets of people with two totally different ideologies, education levels, standards of living, etc.

I don’t know what people in general are thinking, but I am definitely thinking that. He is so unpredictable, does not conform to Republican orthodoxy, and so enamored with breaking the rules, that there have to be Republicans who would be happy to see him gone. Especially since they would get Pence, who would probably

I live in a very liberal city and we are appalled and confused too. Everyone seems to have their own theories about how it happened. Nobody that I’m close to voted for Trump, so I don’t have any direct knowledge about why people really voted for him, you know? This country is very polarized, at least from where I’m

As an American, I found it very gratifying that the marches yesterday were global. I know that Trump is a global threat for a variety of reasons, so people weren’t necessarily marching to show support for us. But it still felt kind of like all of the support we got in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

This Smithsonian video did it better, in my opinion. Muslim-American children and survivors of Japanese-American internment read letters from World War II.

it’s dumb and disingenuous to tell already-bratty teenagers that they deserve every privilege.

On the other hand, I can imagine stress-free. Neither of mine were like this, but water breaks at full-term, labor progresses normally, you’ve already given birth at least once so you know what to expect, etc. But pain-free?

I don’t know...the message here could be that he himself is one of them (just look at him!), and look at all of the fancy stuff he’s acquired (and they can too if they just follow him!)— gilt apartment, trophy wife, trophy...daughters, those other guys who probably also have trophy wives.

Hmmm, I just tried to star your comment because it was exactly my thought. And somehow ended up taking away all your stars. :(

This reminds me of the time that I went to an Italian restaurant in NYC heavily pregnant. I was the first person in my group to arrive and the waiter (with a clear Italian accent) offered me a glass of wine while I waited. I declined but I was so happy that he offered rather than him making the decision for me I could

Me too, and the way she said it was so pretentious, too! Ugh.

Wow! That’s interesting. Maybe he is trying to influence them to behave better?
