They made it pretty clear in the original Dr. Phil segment that mother and daughter “beat each other.” That girl’s been abused her entire life, and mom’s making a big deal of it now because the girl’s big enough to hit back.
This. Kids don’t just end up with behavior issues like this magically, or even because their parents were just too permissive. This girl has had some severe trauma in her life that’s never been addressed.
