Between Family Matters, The Cosby Show and A Different World, I feel like white people used to watch a lot more "black" TV. This doesn't even count Aresnio or In Living Color which maybe came later?
He has some good material in his youth. Many modern comedians have borrowed those gems so they might feel a little stale, but he was an innovator in his own way.
That makes sense. I have a weird thing where I was drawn to really dark and gritty stuff growing up, so lighter fare that isn't garbage feels more impressive and earned to me, but it's all perspective I suppose.
