I do sports medicine for special needs children and I teach ballet to kids. I meet a lot of parents of all kinds. Some of the parents I meet are so wonderful, they make my heart swell up and I can hardly believe that they are real. Some parents don't love their kids.

I don't buy it - slogans oversimplify things. Read Antonio Gramsci for a more nuanced take on government and power.

Classic libertarian oversimplification.

Somehow I feel their idea of "more government" is not being pepper sprayed in the face by incompetent police officers. Said everyone, ever.

I think one of the reasons why radfem has to exist is to challenge. I discovered "I Blame the Patriarchy," got really mad about how much I disagreed with Twisty, and stopped reading it. I came back to it about 6 months later, with a more open mind, and continue to be amazed at the boldness of it. It is a

It's ridiculous to call bell hooks "an old auntie at the dinner table." Just stop.

Tip: "Concentrate on something like a dead cat and try to feel it, taste it, smell it. But never think about how your erection is doing."

Kid, you do you.

I worry that snark in response to a genuine realization of the existence of racial privilege will preclude other well-intentioned but previously unaware individuals from acknowledging their mistakes. If we hope to reach the Gawker commentariat and other people willing to listen but not yet on board with our message,

As lame and pathetic as her essay is on a "where have you even been?" level, this sentence coming from her is pretty important:

I'm no fan of Kim, but I'm proud of her for admitting that she was ignorant about racism and discrimination. Whether she actually takes strides to make a difference will remain to be seen, but I can at least give her props for calling herself out on her own bullshit.

:(

I hate nature shows. While I would *like* to think this Peter Dinklage one will be cute and fuzzy and warm, they inevitably turn south and start showing footage of savage animal maulings and hunting/eating each other and shit. I learned this the hard way with the "Blue Planet" series and Meerkat Manor... MEERKAT

Yeah, this is totally a private matter and she has every right to deal with it privately. But she is also allowed to deal with it publicly. Plus I think it's important to remember that abortion is the only (or one of very few) medical procedures that are actually dictated by the State.

there are definitely easier ways 2 talk about propaganda my friend

The thing that drives me crazy about shops like this is all that overpriced crap was made in some third-world country where each individual item cost pennies to make, but I am a knitter and if I made a nice ribbed black sweater like that, out of natural fiber, *without* the stupid waist thing, and then charged $100

Yes. But, not just to spend it. But, because in some cases there really is a difference in quality.

Soooooooo good

I have a really bad habit of listening to conversations that are happening around me. I don't actively try to hear them, but my brain is a nosy jerk and I just pick it up. It's as if I'm listening to the radio in between channels and can hear ALL OF THE THINGS. Sometimes I like it because I'm interested in whats
