Sorry, you don’t idle (wasting gas) your way out of an ice storm, you scrape your way out. Not having your blades frozen down makes a big difference. Worse, if you have automatic wipers, they can try to break free when you start the car. This can tear your blades off.

Depends where you live. Here in Canada, there is no way your wipers are melted free by the time you are done clearing your car. They will still be stuck to the windshield and you will ruin them.
