Gilliam’s remarks were bullshit. Particularly the BLT part. I lost some respect for him there. I also liked John Cleese’s response. It seemed to me to be fairly self aware. He used a mild slur to refer to his dead friend Graham Chapman to refer to homophobic discrimination, and to denounce it, not to reinforce it.

I no longer want to be a white male

Whenever I think of Monty Python, I always forget that Terry Gilliam was a part of the group.

Yeah, but those kids had it coming.  (This is literally the movie’s position; the character whose parents spare him from infanticide grows up to be a disgusting deformed monster who betrays his people because he resents his inability to fight.)

Yeah, I get the complaint about pandering to straight male audiences, but “the gay male best friend” has been a thing for a while now, for better or for worse. And I know I’ve seen people say that butch lesbians are the least acceptable/represented, and complaints that bisexuality is rarely treated as a real

Michael Swaim’s Small Beans podcast has occasional episodes called 1Upsmanship where he and a guest talk about a video game for an hour. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but they have keen insights and do a good job backing up their opinions, so I didn’t even quit listening in a rage when one of them said he didn’t think

You’re not wrong, the movie kind of forgot about the whole slavery thing. The slaves essentially freed themselves, and Valkyrie wasn’t opposed to it, exactly, but she didn’t really help, either, except where it advanced her own goals.

Isn’t that somehow worse? (Kind of like the whole Braveheart freedom speech.)

AS long as China doesn’t want any explicit homosexuality in their market, we will continue to get *wink wink nudge nudge* characters in the movies (why the TV shows are so far ahead). Also yes it will be conventionally attractive lesbians.

That tends to be the case. And actual LGBT people that speak up about it will get treated like shit and told how wrong they are by pretend social justice supporters (aka SJW) for mentioning it’s hardly representation when only lesbians or bi females are added for the straight guys to jerk off to (like Blizzard who has

I hope that they actually have the character actually be LGBTQ on screen instead of employing the “post-game interview” strategy where a star/writer/director comes out and says “Oh yeah, didn’t you know, [insert character here] was gay the whole time! Aren’t we cool and inclusive? Please give us more money.” like

She is beautiful, charismatic, funny, and kicks ass.

It’s going to be total BS isn’t it?

Fair enough, although I assume it’s meant to show her shift from “selfish assholery” (slaving on Sakaar) to “noble selflessness” (fighting on Asgard). Renouncing slavery could definitely have been more explicit, though.

I don’t know that I can defend Valkyrie, but Thompson was great in the role. She got big laughs (in theater I was in, any way) during the humorous scenes and she exuded badass in the fighting scenes. Plus her chemistry with Hemsworth was palpable. I was a little disappointed that she wasn’t in Infinity War.

“Unrepentant”? Doesn’t joining forces with Thor (and thus giving up the slaving life on Sakaar) to save Asgard count at all?

She drinks and doesn’t apologize for it. And if I know anything that makes you cool.

Not a new podcast, but I just was just tipped off about The Next Picture Show featuring Genevieve Koski, Tasha Robinson, Scott Tobias, and Keith Phipps. Each episode, they take a current film in theaters and compare it to another older film. Good stuff! I miss the old AVC crew.

I'd like to recommend "My Favorite Murder" as well. Perfect balance of humor and seriousness. Plus, those ladies are ridiculously funny.
