I'm on the Big Fish 'dislike' bandwagon as well (and what a lonely bandwagon it is), for precisely the same reasons. But it's weird, so many people whose opinions I respect love that movie… I must be missing something. And/or heartless. Probably heartless.

I agree Dark Shadows is not quite as bad as some make it out to be (some bits are salvageable), but Alice - man oh man, I could barely even finish it. If any film captures everything that's wrong with modern day Burton, I'd vote that one.

I agree in general, but in the context of this article I meant 'safe' to mean the opposite of 'interesting' (ie. daring, transgressive, just plain ol' commercially unappealing by nature) - or at least that's how I took the author's meaning of the word.

Yeah, but the domestic/overseas gross thing is actually one of the big points of the article:

Wasn't that kinda the point of the movie?

Cameron Diaz, Gangs of New York.

Agreed. You'd have every reason to believe it's complete dreck going in, but it's surprisingly not that.

Really??! I thought Mila Kunis was far more cringeworthy. But agreed on Williams & Wiesz.

@avclub-e57f718840a576abbb40a7d046c4e3b0:disqus Seriously, I lived there a few years as a wee one and it's far different than what one might think. I happen to be mixed race, and me and my siblings were showered with nothing but smiles and pretzels or fruit at the markets (apparently giving samples of food to kids is

So if rich uncle Pennybags comes down with appendicitis during those 12 hours or his five year old nephew gets into his bath salt stash, they're SOL? Somehow I don't think everyone would be cool with that setup.

Por moi, Gillian Anderson in X-Files, Claire Danes in My So-Called Life, Shirley Manson of Garbage, and Molly Ringwald in everything.

Are you kidding? A world that doesn't love the line: "In the world of the Fast & Furious franchise, any crime can be committed using a car and every problem is solved by adding more cars" is a world I don't want to live in.

He also co-hosted Roger Ebert Presents At the Movies with Christy Lemire. Anointed by The Spectacled One himself.

No Lou Reed? I bid you good day, madam!!! *storms out* *trips over passed out sunburnt teenager*

My guess is "Mhysa", in which Rickon is befriended by a grizzled, world-weary Jar Jar Binks.

Movie quotes!

Scott - I love ya, man, but that whole spiel about "2012" is a cop out. I get what you're going for - 'You think depicting the drawn out, gruesome murder of 3 or 4 people is morally icky? This, like, other movie has millions of people of dying, man.' (Yes, you are suddenly The Dude in this hypothetical.)
