I was fine with hats being a purely cosmetic thing, since I really don't care about that aspect of the game, but I was bummed when I found out I'd have to get some eventually in order to enjoy some of the cool set bonuses some classes get.

I think when I was young it was all about the collect-a-thon aspect of Pokemon that appealed to me. Now that I'm older, I found the strategic fighting and teambuilding aspect to be surprisingly deep.
