I don’t know, when some Jews were upset about Julia Salazar’s claim to actually *be* Jewish, no one seemed to care much.

I’d be curious to know about the idea of gatekeepers here versus in the case of Julia Salazar, where the consensus seemed to be that who are we to question whether she is Jewish or not.

Is this another Clinton rule?

He’s her husband. I don’t understand why anyone is expecting an unbiased take on this from her. If people want to know where she stands on #metoo, there are other ways to ask.

Or it may be a bit more sinister. He trained his base to divorce politics from anything real-life related. And if accusations of collusion are just politics, then so is anything Mueller finds. They don’t have to take it seriously.

One minor reason I want the Senate to go blue is so I can start feeling useful about calling Schumer, who is my senator, since he’d be in a real position to effect change.

Trump won WV by 40%. Texas - by 10%. Texas has college kids and big cities, and a sizeable Hispanic population. And even still, the Texas race against the most hateful senator is neck in neck.

What makes you think he’ll lose his seat? He was up 9 points last week.

Or maybe Schumer will have more leverage when Manchin is at the start of his next 6-year term, and not a month away from a midterm.

Indeed. The horrible votes were sadly predictable, but that Susan Collins speech...

Not to mention that the majority party controls what comes up for a vote. So in a future where Dems take the Senate, Manchin can vote straight up Republican and still help the Dems by just being counted in the majority.

But would Murkowski vote no on cloture and then yes to confirm? And would Manchin actually vote yes to confirm?

I mean I personally am convinced this alert will be used the day before/of the midterms to send out something that will get more Republicans to the polls. But I think this is run by FEMA just because bureaucracy, not because they’d be handling the nuclear fallout. (Could be wrong though.)
