Have they got it wrong lately? I think there are far more undeserved Oscars and Nobel Prizes than knighthoods.

Soju and pineapple juice. Soju has such a mild taste and it mixes with literally everything. Goes easy neat as well. (Liquor store in my complex caters to a major Korean presence)

All that would happen is a second order counterfactual. The Civil War reasserting itself in a different form. Most likely a guerilla/insurgency type conflict in the Western and border states.

It takes a lot of the fun away from being a fan of a show. Turning it into a guilty pleasure. Not an argument against the actual show. Just adds a level of annoyance that was unintended by the creators.

Was never going to happen. Prior to Fort Sumpter, there was already bloodshed over the issue of slavery. Especially it's expansion to western states. "Bloody Kansas" type fratricide would have spread on its own and taken a far scarier bent than a civil war with clear cut military forces, territories and governments.

Dunst had that extra advantage of playing cray cray. But I see your point. Winstead was fun to watch. Such a badass character.

Nothing cynical about it. Lincoln opposed slavery from the outset but was hemmed in by political realities.

But slavery was the cause of secession in the first place.

Not accountable for the war. They didn't start it.

Don't apologize for it. It is one of the most awesome and memorable sax bits in rock!

Not the point.

That's the second WGN show I liked that was killed just when it was hitting it's stride. The first was Manhattan. The best show dealing with the dangers of nuclear physics since The Incredible Hulk.

But takes a lot of the fun out of it when it pops up in cultural references.

Right now I am in dystopian SF fatigue.

Dammit! I liked that show. It was a great original take on the Antebellum South.

No need to hold the Northern states accountable. They didn't start that war. Their moral screw ups had a rather limited effect. So much so that history can effectively absolve them.

Why not. As long as troops not from the area are running things. The important thing is military control of civil government for the area.

Personally I can't see how it won't be extremely derivative of Harry Turtledove's series of WWI and WWII as extensions of the Civil War.

Morons not realizing they (or protagonists) are being ridiculed makes up a great deal of the fans of Goodfellas, The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, and Justified. Some people are thick that way.
