There is only one country “in the region” where any kind of pride event can be held without the government or angry mob cracking down on their fellow citizens: Israel.

Look, I’m in favor of gun control as much as the next poster, and I think this tragedy is yet more evidence that assault weapons need to be outlawed. But let’s not pretend that address the other contributing factors, including religious extremism, isn’t a vital part of ensuring this doesn’t happen again.

Not all mass shootings have to be motivated by religion, but many are, and this one was one of them.
