Actually there has been a bigger push for older men to avoid procreation. Especially now that more studies show that the age of the father can lead to health problems for a child.

It doesn’t matter if they have “backup” or not. At that age, they could both kick the bucket any day now. That child is a Thing. An object to make them feel better and to complete their lives before they kick it.

I don’t think that’s an equivalent comparison. Men and women can have and enjoy sex for decades after age 60. Sex doesn’t only happen for the sole purpose of recreation.
