As my hearing goes I find I prefer subtitles always on. And boy are they often wildly different than actual dialogue.
Most times simpler words are used, or words are cut entirely. The intent is mostly still there but it is not actual dialogue as you lose 10-20%.
It makes me wonder. You can pause it and there’s no time…
