Maybe. There was a small window of time (no pun intended) when Win8 was very cheap (the first month or two?), and then the price shot up after that. Maybe this is a similar plan.

Maisel has said elsewhere that the building required constant upkeep that he couldn't really stay current with, and that he just didn't want to have to think about the money anymore... so I don't think it was because he was offered some huge winfall. I think he sold because he was just tired of it all.

That's all well and good as long as there's not a chance of other trusted devices being able to "infect" your cable, e.g., a smartphone OS/app update has some nasty code that infects your phone, written to jumps to your cable, and then infect anything else it gets plugged into...

I know I'm being optimistic, and I hope for us all not overly so, but I believe the ubiquity of public recording, and all of the press around legal gov.'t spying will eventually ride a backlash of public outrage and lead to some real privacy laws in this country... fingers crossed.
