I asked some more knowledgeable than me in this field what the deal was. So it was Porsche Cars & Motorsport NA's project, but they didn't fully fund the effort, and I presume that's one of the reasons it was canned. The Germans only signed off on the project with the understanding that they would provide nothing.

That's right, to call it a Porsche NA project was stretching it to be fair. That and Penske getting the newest and best and Dyson having to settle for the leftovers. At the end of the day, the rift in regulations between IMSA and the ACO, along with the movement to push manufacturers and all pro P2 driver squads out…
