The only good reveal of an explanation/backstory in a horror movie is if, in hindsight, it makes you realize new things about the villain's actions that make them creepier.

I think there's a difference between "I won't explain plot holes or logical inconsistencies because this is horror/sci-fi/fantasy, who cares" and "I won't explain the main mystery that keeps people thinking about my movie after it's over".
