2017 was the year I looked back at a lifetime of being defined as an “Oreo” by people and finally realized a lot of the white people who I used to hang out with and even be best friends with were kind of trash.

Them folks don’t care, so long as there are black and brown and LGBTQ people doing worse than them. They’ll die happily in poverty so long as they think they are still a little better off than the rest of us.

I can’t wait for all of those Trump voters in the flyover states be plunged deeper into poverty because their Social Security and Medicaid checks stop, aka chickens coming home to roost. Enjoy your $50 tax savings.

I have never said “burn it down” more than I have this year. Like, almost every day. Almost every hour. I am growling, or shouting, or hissing “burn it [the f***] down.” And my one white friend keeps asking me why. I remember at 16yo getting pulled over by six cops cars after one was following me with no sirens as I left my then retail job and they pull me over in a gas station, after having me cross traffic on a red light to get to that gas station, then tell me they are pulling me over because the light over my plate was dim.…

And the windows couldn’t have been that tinted or the cops couldn’t have been able to see inside the car because there is a whole other demographic driving newer white Mercedes that the Pasadena police would never mess with over something like a missing plate or tinted windows.

But what did he do? Like many young Californians, I, too,was stopped for no front plate and/or tinted windows. It did not go that way. (Surprise.) So these two were willing to risk at least three lives to make sure that the driver eventually has a front plate? Properly tinted windows? Oh, you say you think it wasn’t…

Well, to be fair, he had a missing front plate, tinted windows, and a general knowledge of his legal rights and a propensity for questioning authority. Those last two are the kind of thing that some police are not fond of... not in the least.

Can we just stop giving cops instruments for beating the hell out of people. Seriously, there is no place for a baton.
