@timgray: It's not that big words are always bad. It's that to a lot of people, "sounding smart" involves using big words when simple ones could suffice. Keeping things exactly as simple as they need to be is sophistication, not dumbing down.

Sorry lady, but in actual academia we have things called "ethics", you might have heard of them. Telling your boyfriends parents that they're going to be grandparents, telling your siblings they're going to be aunts and uncles, and then saying "suprise!" makes you a horrible person. The ends do NOT justify the means.
