To say that ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ is not ostensibly about feminism is like saying ‘Big Night’ is not about the joy of cooking/eating.

“Our goal is to facilitate positive discussion among solution-oriented people who believe in the power of sharing ideas and personal connections.”

For the record, I don’t give a damn about what products white people use in their hair. If that is your takeaway, then you’ve missed the point. Also, I cannot speak for other black people in Kinja, but I am not your ‘black people whisperer’. To the plethora of racists leaving comments, surely you have better things to

“Women are gold-diggers, am I right?”

Just because she’s Slavic, it does not mean she’s “Eastern European,” FFS. Look at the darn map. XOXO.

These guys who seek “mail order brides” do so for a reason and it has nothing to do with love or altruism. There’s no shortage of women in their countries who are their equals in age, beauty, intelligence. They want someone out of their league who they can control. So let’s not pretend these femme fatales are taking

I’m not saying this was Melania’s case, but you don’t know the stories behind what makes women become “mail-order brides.” You don’t know their history, their material conditions, their desperation level, you don’t know a bunch of things. You also don’t mention the reason behind why some western men choose these

I would have loved it too (I was one of those folks oohing and ahhing over this photo on social media) but racists would have gone even more nuts than they already did. She already got called an ape, monkey, angry black woman, the n-word ... And those of us with natural hair have to contend with folks who don’t think

Man, you guys owe this woman a 50-page apology. I don’t know why anybody hates her— someone didn’t like the sincerity level of a speech she gave and that’s why so many years of public abuse and loathing? Or something? But she sounds 10x smarter & more self-aware & more gracious than any writer here, in any event.

No really?

I think you are safer when the guy is old like Annette’s husband was. I won’t type his name because I think she is far superior to him.

I don’t think celebrities are necessarily obligated to voice political concerns, but when TS uses feminism as marketing, I think she somewhat opens herself up to this kind of criticism.

It also helps fuel the narrative of “the corrupt media looking for a ratings grab” because... well, why the fuck else would you hype up something so ultimately trivial by talking for 20 minutes about the importance of knowing the information THAT YOU DON’T ACTUALLY HAVE AT ALL

Exactly this. I just keep thinking, “Now his supporters get to say that he pays his taxes.” I feel like it did way more harm than good.

I hope the short-term ratings boost was worth it, Rachel =\

I’m hoping she takes the time to say “I was wrong” and addresses this comment.

This is a reminder that everyone should be watching her on The Expanse, because it’s a really good show.

I think I’m just in a really bad mood today but this interview pissed me off. “Oh no, feminism is too mainstream so I need to call myself something else! People who call themselves feminists who don’t work to solve every single problem in the fucking world and also overthrow capitalism every minute of their lives

We can talk about that, but let’s not pretend that suddenly capitalism is an issue when a Black woman is rich and famous as fuck. Let’s not criticize every famous Black woman who says she’s a feminist while praising famous white women for the bare minimum. And let’s not dismiss Beyonce for being sexual while praising

She lost me with her comments on white feminism. It’s not just power, it’s the power and cluelessness that whiteness affords.
