Did you hit play? She lost me then. Also Empress and Queen mean the same thing. Celebrities just...tend to not know stuff.

OK, before I clicked play I thought your comment was extreme. Now I completely agree. Jeebus. Girl just can’t help herself.

Haven’t read this book but I heard her talk about it on NPR and I got the same impression as you. Also, all her conclusions seemed really obvious.

Totally. As I suggested in another comment, the stigmatization of sampling is racist.

I didn’t know about that. In fact, I know very little about the personalities behind the whole trip hop scene maybe because it was the pre-blogosphere age. However, I’m huge fan of Maxinquaye. If it’s not already in your rotation, check it out. It was a formative album for me.

Nice. In Russian art and literature it’s the same thing. Quoting “the greats” is how you show that you know your shit and respect your predecessors while also innovating. The “controversy” surrounding sampling in the US was simply racist.

Actually speaking of layers, I thought about Tricky when listening to some of the songs on Lemonade. And your comment reminded me of “Glory Box” which samples “Ike’s Rap II” just like Tricky’s “Hell Is Around The Corner.”#layers

Holy hell, there is something magical about Hayes’ version. Love Cara’s song and Portishead’s.

This is why I disagree with people who put down sampling on principle. I love geeking out about “THE LAYERS.” All music’s got them, but some artists directly quote (and cite) their sources and others do not.

The Isaac Hayes version is amazing.

I mostly agree with what you’re saying. I’m not comfortable with the born this way rhetoric, but I completely respect and believe people who say “I have been attracted to members of my gender for as long as I can remember.” At the same time, there are plenty of other people who have occupied multiple positions on the

LOVING “Hold Up.” Actually the whole thing, but that song especially.

UGH. Hate that “joke.”

It’s the problem with all these extreme manifestations of plastic surgery. You no longer see the person/talent, just the surgery aftermath.

I think it was just boring old impulse.

Now playing

Yeah, she’s definitely put her issues out there before. It really sucks. I remember when she first came out into the mainstream with No Time, I thought she was beautiful and a total badass. Though back then I think audiences were more accepting of pop stars who did not look like runway models.

I was just about to say how much I love the glasses look. I’m biased though.

I’m always here for a Dottie Parker quote.

She and Liza were amazing guest-stars on that show! Both killed it though I think Liza was mostly playing herself. It worked tho.
