Miami Vice killed off Don Johnson’s partner, Jimmy Smits, in their first episode.

And it’s not like Playstation Vue didn’t already demonstrate what a horrible marketing strategy that was.

I presume that he still has assets (home, cars, possible money still left in a bank account) in the country that can be frozen and eventually forfeited. 

This movie could have easily hit on all the same points and NOT have been a horrible retcon.

Only it wasn’t. It placated them at every turn. Case in point:
“Rose, are you coming with us?”
“No, Leia says I can’t be in this movie.”

“...and then behind Sony’s back, partnered with Philips to make it instead.”
