Having a music-related character did give the show a way to introduce music and songs, which made possible the cool sequence where all the sensates are singing. [Then again, Wolfgang could have been given this stuff (remember the scene where his father mocked his stage fright), and it would have been a nice contrast…

Other reviews have been saying the same thing, that Vanessa never got a good look at her during the flashback episode. The barrier was invisible, but I guess windows back then were pretty cloudy.
