For the record: Yes, his tweets are obnoxious, insane, indecipherable, all at the same time. But I hope he NEVER stops using social media; his tweets are the source of some of his most spectacular self-inflicted dick-punches.

All branches of the military swear loyalty to the Constitution, not the President. If any order is found to be un-Constitutional, service members would be required to disobey it. So even if he did formally issue this order (which he has not), it likely would not be obeyed, and would almost certainly end up in court.

Current military commander here with a not open, but not hiding trans member in my command. My direct message to that person:

Yup. We in the military have an obligation to refuse orders that are “immoral, illegal, or unethical.” If Adm. Zukunft believes that the orders he is being given to discriminate against his service members violate that criteria then he can absolutely push back on them.

Even the military can legally defy orders they believe to be illegal and take the matter to court, at the very least tying it up in litigation until post- Trump.

We’re now in a situation where the heads of the US Armed Forces, traditionally some of the most stubborn socially conservative people on the planet, are more tolerant than the President.
