@PrettyNotPretty: I wouldn't have a problem with this if the subjects actually applied to be on the show. But they don't. Like Mediokra says, they follow them around and take secret footage of them, then they ambush and make fun of them.

@Deprong Mori: I know it's not just you. It's probably one of the things I dislike most about LH—commenters jumping all over the aesthetics of clever little DIY projects, and calling things trailer trash and ghetto. If you think a project's ugly, you can modify it or not do it at all. Most of them are licensed under

I don't think of these things strictly in terms of cost. A lot of my DIY projects and bargain hunting tactics are enjoyable for me. I try to make a point to try things at least once. Some I enjoy and end up doing regularly, and others I don't. But even those I don't end up doing regularly, I at least know how. I don't

@Ryan Cheale: I honestly don't understand why people here get so bent out of shape over DIY projects like this.

@I_can_still_pitch: They'd probably have to have different colored hats, though, like the Bloods and the Crips.

I've been doing this for a while now. In fact, I came up with the idea independently before I found out that other people on the internet had proactively stolen my idea by thinking of it first.

A good place to start might be in schools. At least as of a few years ago before my son graduated, they were still officially lauding kids with perfect attendance; and every now and again, there'll be a local news story about a kid graduating without ever having missed a day of school.

I think of my watch almost like ambient technology. It's always there, right in the periphery, so I keep better track of time than I do when I have to take out a cell phone and consciously check the time.

@zee: Oh, ha. You beat me.

I was raised by cheapskates, and when it comes down to it, the most important things my parents passed along to us weren't specific rules or budgeting tips, but general attitudes.

I spent decades trying to cure my packrat-itis before I decided to stop thinking of it as a pathology. I understand and appreciate that a lot of people prefer clear, uncluttered environments, and when I visit them in their homes, I can appreciate the aesthetic. I wouldn't want to live there, though.

@homerjay: I just got glasses in about the same shape as ones I knew I liked, and figured that out of four pairs (one are sunglass tinted), if any of them looked funny, I'd use them for around the house or when I'm doing something stupid and bad, like using them as safety goggles.

I just got new glasses pairs from zennioptical.com, and I'm happy so far. They fit well, the lenses seem right (storefront places messed up my last two prescriptions, I think), and they seem to be well constructed.

Unfortunately, a lot of people just plain wouldn't give to charity directly, so as ineffective as it is, having some company donate a portion of profits to a good cause is probably better than nothing in some cases.

I love this.

This has been going on for a very long time, and I've been waiting for it to start blowing up in their faces for a very long time.
